 VACANCIES

Applications are invited from the citizens of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka who possess the requisite qualifications to fill the following vacancies of the Sugarcane Research Institute at Uda Walawe.

01. Deputy Director (Administration) – (HM 1-3) – 01 position
External: 
Qualifications : 
A Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration/Business Administration/Management/Law from a university recognized by the U.G.C.
WITH
A Master’s Degree in Public Administration/Business Administration/Management/Law or Associate Membership of a recognised professional Chartered Institute, which is relevant to administration /management.
AND
Minimum of 15 years experience at a “Managerial level” in a Corporation, Statutory Board/Institution or a reputed private institution.
OR
Full Membership of a recognised professional Chartered Institution related Administration/Management.
AND
Minimum of 15 years experience at a “Managerial Level” in a Corporation, Statutory Board/Institution or a reputed private institution
Internal:
EITHER
Having obtained the qualifications required by the external candidates above.
OR
Five years satisfactory service as an Assistant Director (Administration) in Grade I.

02. Principal Research Officer (HM 1-3) – 03 positions 
(Subject areas: Plant Breeding, Soil and Plant Nutrition, Plant Protection, Sugar Mill Technology, Food Technology, Fermentation Technology, By-products Processing Technology & Farm Mechanization Technology)
Qualifications: 
External:
A four-year degree in Science/Agriculture/Engineering with a class from a university recognized by the U.G.C.
WITH
A PhD Degree in a relevant discipline from a recognised university.
AND
At least 15 years of research and management experience in a recognised organization, of which 5 years should be after obtaining PhD degree and at senior research/managerial level with proven track record.
Internal:
A PhD degree in a relevant discipline from a recognised university
AND
Five (5) years post-qualifying experience as a Senior Research Officer

03. Principal Technology Transfer Officer – (HM 1-3) – 01 position 
External:
A four-year degree in Agriculture with a class from a university recognised by the U.G.C.
WITH
A PhD Degree in a relevant discipline from a recognised university.
AND
At least 15 year of extension and management experience in a recognised organization, of which 5 years should be after obtaining PhD degree and at senior research/managerial level with proven track record.
Internal:
A PhD degree in a relevant discipline from a recognised university.
AND
Five (5) years post-qualifying experience as a Senior Technology Transfer Officer.

04. Senior Research Officer (AR 2) – 01 Position
(Subject area: Plant Breeding, Soil and Plant Nutrition, Plant Protection, Sugar Mill Technology, Food Technology, Fermentation Technology, By-products Processing Technology & Farm Mechanization Technology)
Qualifications:
A four-year special degree with a first or second class upper division in Science, Engineering or Agriculture from a recognized University.
OR
(a) A four-year special degree with a second class lower in Science, Engineering or Agriculture from a recognized University and a minimum of one-year postgraduate degree in the relevant field.
OR
(b) A degree in Science, Engineering or Agriculture from a recognized university and a two-year postgraduate research degree in the relevant field.
AND
A PhD degree in the relevant field and at least 08 years research experience after obtaining bachelors degree.
Note: Research publications relevant to the respective discipline will be an added qualification.
Internal:
A PhD with at least eight years experience as a Research Officer.
OR
An MPhil /MSc (Two-year research degree) with 10 years experience as a Research Officer.
[NB: An applicant who qualifies under (a) or (b) above should obtain an additional postgraduate degree by research to be eligible for SRO]

05. Senior Technology Transfer Officer (AR 2) – 01 Position
Qualifications:
(a) A four-year special degree with a first or second class (upper division) in Agriculture from recognized University.
OR
(b) A four-year special degree with a second class lower in Agriculture from a recognized University and a minimum of
(a) One-year postgraduate degree in Agricultural Extension.
OR
(c) A degree in Agriculture from a recognized university and a two-year postgraduate research degree in Agricultural
Extension.
AND
A PhD degree in Agricultural Extension and eight years experience in extension activities after obtaining first degree.
Note: Publications relevant to Agricultural Extension will be an added qualification.
Internal:
A PhD with at least eight years experience as a Technology Transfer Officer
OR
An MPhil /MSc (Two -year research degree) with 10 years experience as a Technology Transfer Officer.
[NB: An applicant who qualifies under (a) or (b) above should obtain an additional postgraduate degree by research to be eligible for STTO]
Note: Publications relevant to Agricultural Extension will be an added qualification.

06. Research Officer (AR 1): – 01 Position
(Subject area: Mill Technology)
External:
i. A four-year special degree with a first or second class upper in Science, Engineering or Agriculture from a recognised University.
OR
ii. A four-year special degree with a second class lower in Science, Engineering or Agriculture from a recognised University and a minimum of one-year postgraduate degree in the relevant field.
OR
iii. A degree in Science, Engineering or Agriculture from a recognised university and a two-year postgraduate research degree in the relevant field.
Note: Preference will be given to candidates with an Engineering degree specialised in either Mechanical or Chemical Engineering.
Internal:
Experimental Officers and Development Officers with a basic degree in the relevant discipline having a minimum of 5 years experience in grade II of the relevant category.

07. Procurement Officer : JM 1-2 (01 position)
External:
A Degree in Management or Commerce from a recognised university or Higher National Diploma in Accountancy from a government technical college with three (03) years post-qualifying experience in local and foreign supplies work in a Government Department/Corporation/Statutory Statuary Board or a reputed mercantile establishment.
AND
One-year certificate course in supplies and material management.
Internal:
Certificate course in Supplies and Material Management
AND
Five (05) years experience in local and foreign supplies work in Management Assistant Non Technological Category in Grade I.

08. Technical Officer (MA 2-2) – 01 Position
(Subject area: Crop Nutrition)
Qualifications:
External:
G.C.E. (O/L) six subjects with four credits including Sinhala/Tamil, English, Mathematics and Science.
AND
GCE (A/L) in Science with three passes in one sitting with a two-year Diploma not below the N.V.Q. Level 5 from a recognised institution approved by the relevant government authority.

Internal: 
a) A pass in GCE (O/L) in one sitting with four credits inclusive of Mathematics, Science and Language (Sinhala/ Tamil/English)
AND
b) Minimum of five (05) years experience in a Primary Level Unskilled, Semi-skilled and Skilled Category with a Diploma not below the N.V.Q Level 5 approved by the relevant government authority.
Age Limit (On the date of closing applications):
Should be not less than 35 years and not more than 55 years. The upper age limit will not apply to candidates from Government Departments, Corporations and Statuary Boards and internal candidates. (only for HM 1-3 salary categories) Should be not less than 25 years and not more than 45 years. The upper age limit will not apply to candidates from Government Departments, Corporations and Statutory Boards and internal candidates. (Only for AR-2 salary category).

Method of Selection:
  • Deputy Director (Administration) – By a structured interview.
  • Principal Research Officer/Senior Principal Technology Transfer Officer – By a structured interview.
  • Senior Research Officer – By a structured interview.
  • Senior Technology Transfer Officer – By a structured interview.
  • Research Officer – On the results of a written competitive examination and a structured interview.
  • Procurement Officer – On the results of a written competitive examination and a structured interview.
  • Technical Officer – On the results of a written competitive examination and a structured interview.
Other Benefits:
In addition to the salary, government approved allowances will be paid.
In lieu of transport facilities, government approved allowances will be paid. (Only for HM 1-3 salary category)
Medical benefits are available according to prevailing rules of the Institute’s Medical Scheme.
Rent-free quarters will be provided, if available.

Provident Fund:
The employee will be required to contribute 10% of the salary to the Employees’ Provident Fund while the Institute will contribute 15%. The Institute will also contribute 3% to the Employees’ Trust Fund.

General Conditions:
Transferable to any part of Sri Lanka
